Wildlife Conservation & Animal Care Programmes in South Africa

Conservation is at the heart of everything we do. Since its establishment in 1990 as a dedicated cheetah project, the organisation has played a key role in protecting endangered species, particularly cheetahs and rhinos. Our work includes breeding and maintaining diverse cheetah bloodlines, rehabilitating rhinos affected by poaching, and raising awareness about wildlife conservation both locally and internationally. We also provide valuable research opportunities on the endangered species in our care and participate in initiatives to sustain and increase the genetic diversity of free-ranging cheetahs across Southern Africa.

This immersive programme offers international volunteers the unique opportunity to work hands-on with some of Africa’s most iconic species, including cheetahs, wild dogs, white rhinos, sable antelope, and ground hornbills. Conservation is the main focus, and every activity is designed to give volunteers practical experience while contributing directly to the welfare of these incredible animals.

Before stepping into the field, participants take part in informal, engaging lectures covering conservation principles, animal care, wildlife tracking, and the ecological challenges facing endangered species. These sessions prepare volunteers to confidently assist in hands-on conservation work — from feeding and habitat maintenance to monitoring and enrichment activities.

Each day brings something new — from guided bush walks and game drives to tracking experiences and unforgettable moments under the African sky. Volunteers also have the opportunity to visit Kruger National Park, experiencing some of Africa’s most famous wildlife up close.

What You Will Do
  • Feed and care for animals, including enrichment and habitat maintenance

  • Assist with conservation projects and wildlife monitoring

  • Participate in guided bush walks, tracking exercises, and game drives

  • Engage in educational lectures on ecology, wildlife management, and conservation challenges

  • Visit key wildlife and conservation sites, including Kruger National Park

Program Durations
  • Flexible options available, including 1-week or 3-week experiences

Participants gain practical skills, deepen their understanding of conservation, and actively contribute to protecting endangered species. Whether you’re looking to learn, explore, or make a real impact, this programme combines education, adventure, and purpose in one extraordinary journey.
